this is vancouver. for 15 years i have lived in this city but only in the last little while have i really gotten to know it and understand it for what it really is. a city is not just a bunch of cars, buildings, streets and shopping districts. a city is a living entity.

but what is life like in other cities? what does good urban planning mean in another context? what unique challenges and circumstances do other cities face? i wanted to trace the history of urban planning to its roots. to experience another culture and to challenge my perception of what a city could be. so i'm off to europe for the next two months to explore some of the world's greatest capitals. like belgrade and budapest, the jewels of eastern europe. vienna, the city of music. prague the city of dreams and fairytales.
